Consultee – Kelly
Questions asked:
- Are there other similar crisis response teams in my community that do similar work that I could utilize as a resource?
- Does any research show if this would succeed better if I did gender-specific help such as specifically for individuals who identify as women who are domestic survivors?
- Could I partner with the local medical hospital to help provide physical assistance to those in need?
In this scenario, there are three questions that Kelly has in order to fully develop outreach for individuals who are domestic violence survivors. Kelly is curious if there are crisis resource response teams in her community that are already doing this line of work, if she should focus on gender-specific populations, and if there is an opportunity to partner with the local hospital to help these individuals.
Caplan’s Consultee-Centered Consultation Model
I would utilize Caplan’s Consultee-Centered Consultation model to help Kelly address this issue. In Consultee-Centered Consultation, “the consultant facilitates growth in the consultee to learn and use new skills so that the consultee can improve personal work with a specific group of clients” (Scott et al., 2015, p. 8). Why this model?
Kelly is interested in doing outreach that is specific to individuals who are survivors of domestic violence. This consultation model is aimed at educating the consultee (Scott et al., 2015, p. 8). This consultation model focuses on helping a consultee work with a specific population. This consultation model would best suit this scenario because Kelly is looking into working with a group of people who have a common issue. Not only is Kelly looking at a group of people who have a common issue, but she is also interested in being gender-specific for her outreach to be more effective and successful. This model is the best model to use and will help Kelly gain insight into the issue at hand.
Strategies
- Networking – Kelly stated that she wants help with identifying crisis response teams in her community that work with survivors of domestic violence. As the consultant, I would help Kelly find resources within her community that support her cause. I would also encourage Kelly to hire and train a community outreach specialist. The community outreach specialist is in charge of going into the community and developing partnerships with organizations that support Kelly’s mission.
- Domestic Violence Specialist – Kelly stated that she would like more information about working with gender-specific individuals who are survivors of domestic violence. As the consultant, I would invite a domestic violence specialist to come into the agency to educate team members on the unique needs of specific populations.
- Community Partnership Meeting – Kelly stated that she is interested in parenting with the local hospital to help provide more services. As the consultant, I will assist Kelly in constructing and executing community partner meetings.
- Domestic Violence Training – Another important strategy in working with Kelly’s agency is ensuring that team members are adequately prepared for crisis management techniques and strategies. As the consultant, I will offer the agency specialized skills training that applies the skills and techniques in real-time. The training will consist of a variety of domestic violence-specific scenarios.
